My girlfriend of 6 years is a vegetarian. It only really bothers you when you're picking a restaraunt to eat at (I dont eat out often anyway because broke). We just cook seperate meals otherwise.

My girl is very un-vegetarian.
Sometimes i wonder that she has a blackhole in her stomach that allows her to eat lots of things un-healthy and stays thin.

She makes sure I brush my teeth before we do anything but I like to do that anyway. Otherwise it's only ever a problem when I cook bacon because she hates the smell. Extractor fan plus open window = solved. No woman could make me give up bacon.

Uggh, my ex was vegetarian, which personally isn't a problem. But she was too picky to like any of the food at VEGETARIAN RESTAURANTS!
Its like "bbbiiiisssshhhhhhh I'm trying to be nice here."

I had a feeling. I hate the smell of bacon even though if I could have every meal contain beef I would. If I didnt keep kosher I'd probably eat bacon, just wouldnt cook it

If you two dig each other, who cares? I'm atheist and my wife is Catholic. We got married by Elvis in Vegast and she prays before sleep each night. It's all about compromise.

I dated a vegetarian once. She'd existed for years sleeping on this rickety futon. I broke it in one night, split it right down the middle. Then I baked a ham the next day and ate the hell out of it. She kicked me to the curb the day after. It had to have been that futon incident.

There was a time I had bacon almost every day then I realised it wasn't so good for me so I stopped eating it so much. Still perfect to put on a home made cheese burger though.

She's not just vegetarian because of love for animals (thats a big part of it though) she actually didnt eat red meat at all even before she went veggie.

Well that's good. My cardiologist would love for me to eat less red meat, or cut it out all together. haha I'm working on eating more chicken/fish instead of red meat, but I'll never give it up entirely. How could I, with things like bacon, Korean BBQ, and milanesa?!

My diet is appalling to be honest, I eat loads of red meat and chicken. Not to mention deep fried chips. If I didn't commute by bicycle and excercise I'd likely be in very bad shape.

I never see my daughter eat. I have to yell at her to get something. She's 5' on the dot and normal weight, yet she can put away two racks of ribs. I'm so proud.

I know how that goes. I have an insane metabolism and smaller build, because of some congenital cardiac issues, but based on my diet I always tell people that I'm "the skinniest fat person ever." haha
Luckily, I'm pretty active too. I do a lot of hiking, backpacking, and rock climbing.

Yeah I'm like that, really high metabolism and small build despite a fair bit of working out. I tried eating more vegetables and fish but I bored of it pretty quickly. One day I'll have to eat better, but for now I'm young so I feel like I can get away with it.

I went on a date with a vegetarian not knowing she was a vegetarian. Naturally, we went to dinner on our first date to a semi-decent restaurant.
I, of course, ordered a big steak and everything was going fantastic, conversation was going really well... and then the food came. We started eating and we both commented on how delicious our own dishes were.
I asked her if she wanted to try a bite from my plate, and then she dropped the bomb that she was a vegetarian.
Immediately awkwardness. We're still friendly acquaintances but that date immediately nose-dived. Don't get me wrong, you can eat whatever you like. But I felt like I was being judged during every bite, which is undeniably true. We never dove into the reason(s) why she's a vegetarian or, conversely, why I'm not. There was the immediate "I don't judge" conversation, but there was definitely a little bit of judging on both ends.
It was the first and only time where I wanted the date to end immediately, not because she was a vegetarian but how just embarrassing it was. It's definitely up there on one of the most awkward moments of my life.
The most awkward would probably have to be giving a shoulder massage to a complete stranger while I was in highschool who I thought was a really close friend of mine viewed from behind.

A few years back my sister converted (from nothing) to Judaism in order to get married. As a result, anytime she and her family came down to visit everything had to be kosher. No more cheeseburgers on the 4th of July, no pepperoni pizza, no shrimp cocktail, no bacon. The most frustrating part was Thanksgiving. Mom makes the best spinach and sausage stuffing, but now that was off the list. After a few years of some dreadful replacements (she tried, but it wasn't the same..), mom figured out how to make her own turkey sausage and then could make a stuffing that was nearly as good as the old version with the pork sausage. But now I live 1800 miles away and don't get to enjoy mom's cooking anymore :(

I had as a Spanish teacher this Cuban Jew and the guy was quite a character. He said if he found himself at a party that served anything verboten but the least bit tasty—sausages, bacon, ham, cocktail weenies—he would just resign himself to ending up drunk and munching on pork from a paper plate. The kicker about those kind of stories is everyone around him is just like "WHAT? HOW COULD POSSIBLY DO THAT?" and somehow in that moment, imagining yourself in his shoes, your gut turned a little bit at the thought of eating this stuff...

My wife was a vegetarian when I started dating her. Lots of passive aggressive encouragement from me had her eating things like chicken broth based soups and dishes with light meat sauces within a few months. Then, once that wall was down, it was only a matter of time until she was on to full bore carnevoria.
The only remnant is that she still won't eat meat around her mother or sister who never had the conversion back to meats.
We do have a rule though...Unless they make meat dishes for me when I visit their house, I won't make vegetarian dishes for them when they visit mine (I'm the cook in my house for some reason). The mother in law has not acquiesced so I go out and grab food when visiting (and vice versa) but the sister in law has. Last time I was at her place she made, a very excellent BTW, turkey. Fun fact, my 5 year old niece freaking devoured it...the first time she had ever had meat. Apparently she now gets turkey and roast beef sandwiches and the like regularly. The walls are breaking.

Same here. I will happily cook vegetarian or vegan food, use separate plates and utensils, and so forth for anybody. That includes finding special ingredients.
But I expect the same in return. I do not eat soy products and need a lot of protein with good bioavailabilty. I am the polar opposite of picky otherwise.

My girlfriend is vegetarian-ish, but that's because she just can't eat meat, she gets really sick (it wasn't a choice for her).
You get over it. She likes potatoes, so that just means that steak and potatoes is something that happens often, and I don't have to share the steak.
What's wrong with someone being vegetarian anyway? I'm not about to jump off the deep end because my girlfriend eats tofu. More for her.

Meanwhile, people are still arguing whether geographical isolation is a necessary means for allopatric speciation.
Discussing the latter yesterday, I only leaned towards a buddy and asked whether he would want to spend his life married to a planteater. "Nope."

Articular gout? Just curious. A friend of my family had to abandon steaks and red wine due to suffering severe charges after having too much of a certain food/drink type.
I'll agree that you can generally get over it. That's a bit harder when people tend to go full vegan for ideological reasons and end up evangelizing everyone.

I wish I knew actually. Its not gout that Im aware of, because she actually cant keep it down. Even a tiny piece of meat and she'll vomit that back up. She also became lactose intolerant I think around the same time, but it was all before I met her. She used to have no problem, and misses eating meat.

Aye ... it sucks when you straight-up have to abandon something you like.
Have you excluded the possibility of a simple protein allergy/intolerance then? Seeing that the human body is quite limited in its ability to deal with excess protein intake, lots of symptoms can possibly be traced back to something like it.
But hey, you seem to make it work. Still sucks if you usually liked it.

Eventually, given the money, I would like to try and figure out exactly whats going on, but it wont really be for a while.
For now she's able to do well enough, and its not the worst, most restaurants are able to put something together that she can have.
